Overview
Scribr (com.flexkit.scribr) is a voice recording and transcription app available on Android (Google Play) and iOS (Apple App Store). This policy applies to both platforms. Transcription runs entirely on your device using offline AI models (Whisper and Parakeet). Your audio is never sent to any server for processing.
This policy explains what data is collected, why, and how you can control it.
Audio Recordings Stays on device
All audio recordings are stored locally on your device only. Audio files are never uploaded to any server, cloud storage, or third-party service.
- Recordings are saved in the app's private documents directory.
- Deleting a recording from the app permanently removes the file from your device.
- Uninstalling the app removes all stored recordings.
- Imported audio files are copied into the app's private storage.
- Optional password encryption: you can turn on encryption in Settings. Audio files are then encrypted on your device using a key derived from your password (Argon2id with AES-GCM). Your password is never stored or sent anywhere. If you forget it, encrypted data cannot be recovered.
Transcriptions
Transcription is performed locally by the Whisper and Parakeet models running on your device. No audio or text is sent to any external AI service.
Transcription text is stored in a local SQLite database on your device. When password encryption is enabled, this database is encrypted (SQLCipher) with a key derived from your password.
Translation and language detection also run on your device, using Google ML Kit.
Model Downloads
Before the first transcription or translation, the app downloads the model files it needs:
- Speech models (Whisper and Parakeet) are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) when you choose to install them.
- Translation models are downloaded from Google ML Kit the first time you use a language pair.
These requests transfer model files only. Your recordings and transcripts are never uploaded. Like any internet request, these hosts can see your IP address and standard request information.
App Lock
You can optionally lock Scribr with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device's fingerprint unlock. Authentication is handled entirely by your device's operating system. Scribr only receives a pass or fail result. It never accesses or stores your biometric data.
Backups & Export
You can export your recordings and transcriptions as a backup file (ZIP). Backups can be protected with a password. The file is handed to your device's share sheet, so where it goes after that is up to you.
Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data to understand how the app is used and improve it. The data collected includes:
- Feature usage events (e.g. "transcription started")
- App version and device type (anonymized)
- Crash and error rates
Analytics data is aggregated and anonymous. It cannot be used to identify you personally. No recording content or transcriptions are included in analytics events.

Crash Reporting
We use Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect crash reports and non-fatal error reports. These reports help us identify and fix bugs. Reports contain:
- Stack traces and error messages
- Device model and OS version
- App version
Crash reports do not contain your recordings, transcriptions, or any personal content.
Advertising
The free version of Scribr displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and other signals to show relevant ads.
On iOS, the advertising identifier (IDFA) is only accessed if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. If you decline, ads are not personalized using your IDFA.
Purchasing Remove Ads from the app permanently disables all advertising. No ad data is collected for premium users.

In-App Purchases
The only purchase available is Remove Ads, processed entirely by the Google Play Store (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS). Scribr does not collect or store any payment information. Purchase receipts are verified through the Play Store or App Store.

Data Retention
- Local data: Retained until you delete a recording or uninstall the app (Android or iOS).
- Analytics & crash data: Retained by Google for up to 14 months per Google's standard retention policy.
Children's Privacy
Scribr is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can delete it.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: request a copy of data we hold about you.
- Deletion: delete your recordings at any time from within the app, or email [email protected] to request full data removal.
- Portability: export all recordings and transcriptions using the Export all as ZIP feature in the app.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
